Contracts Manager, Rail & Transit for our Transportation Systems team located in our Calgary or Edmonton offices. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this position will be responsible for managing the contractual agreements for major rail and transit projects, including negotiating, supporting, and managing the contracts. This position involves extensive contact with clients, sub-consultants, and project team; therefore organizational & communication skills are paramount for success.

What you can expect to do here:
- Work within an existing Commercial Management team in support of the Transportation Systems group, managing Rail and Transit, Ports, Marine and Coastal, and Aviation market sectors.
- Draft, prepare, review, and manage contracts, including teaming agreements, Memorandum of Understanding, Joint Venture Agreements, Internal Consulting Agreements, Consultant Agreements and Subconsultant/Subcontractor Agreements.
- Assist the Teams in the interpretation and application of contractual terms.
- Review and provide recommendations on the terms and conditions of all WSP standard and non-standard contracts.
- Review and provide recommendations on Client Pro Forma contracts.
- Maintain contractual records and documentation accordingly.
- Develop and implement procedures for contract management and administration in line with company policy.
- Identify and assess potential risks associated with contracts, developing mitigation strategies to minimize liabilities. Collaborate with Legal and Risk Management Department to coordinate Delegation of Authority submissions for approval and to coordinate contractual insurance requirements.
- Monitor competitive terms and customer satisfaction with the terms and conditions and contracting practices.
- Recommend changes as required and manage on-going and critical contractual issues on projects; may include claims management, conflicts of interest, etc.
- Provide guidance on contract matters to project managers and other operational staff including training on contracting practices and procedures as required.
- Conduct workshops and modelling with suppliers, commercial and business owners to understand risks.
- Lead the contract management lifecycle process; Ensure contract management, execution and close out.
- Strong understanding of contract law, legal principles, commercial principles and relevant regulations
- Capability to analyze complex contracts, identify potential issues, and assess risks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate contract terms and expectations
- Other duties as assigned/required.
What you'll bring to WSP:
TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in a related field (business, law, or other related areas).
- 10+ years of relevant project and contract administration experience.
- Significant experience in a similar role involving contracts management on projects.
- Experience on large projects at an intermediate level working with various stakeholders.
- Experience working with legal, risk, technical, financial, and commercial advisors.
- Experience writing both technical and non-technical contract specifications.
- Experience and understanding of project financing and structuring of large infrastructure development contracts.
- Experience in risk identification, allocation, and quantification for large, complex capital projects.
- Familiarity with transit systems operations, asset management practices and contract administration.
- Proven advanced conflict and issues resolution skills.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Supply Chain Management Professional Certification (SCMP) would be considered as an asset.
- Experience working with rail and transit projects considered an asset.
- Experience in contract administration and claims management an asset.
- Experience in both Owner and Contractor roles an asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience, competence in clear, concise, and tactful communication with senior management, clients, peers, and staff.
- Strategic, conceptual analytical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated willingness to learn.
- Adaptability and flexibility including the ability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity, and change.
- Experience in a Consulting Engineering environment is an asset.
