The Opportunity:
WSP Canada Limited, has an immediate employment opportunity for an intermediate level Engagement and Human Environment Specialist, preferably based in Calgary, Alberta. WSP is looking for a detail-oriented individual who, among many engagement and human environment-related scopes, will take pride in accurately reviewing data, summarizing engagement activities and preparing client reports.
The successful candidate will work on a broad range of projects across Canada, including in the resource development, infrastructure, municipal and water resources sectors. Understanding and responding to the concerns of those impacted by a project is critical to successful project development. The position is essential to supporting a project team to develop an understanding of concerns and priorities of those potentially affected by a project.

What you can expect to do here:
The successful candidate will work in the Human Environment Group. Primary responsibilities will be to review and summarize records of engagement, identify data gaps, and manage and report on engagement activities undertaken by WSP and our clients.
WSP uses its proprietary Stakeholder and Issues Information Management System (SIIMS) to record engagement interactions among WSP, our clients, and Indigenous groups, stakeholders and the public. WSP also uses other engagement tracking software at the request of clients.
Responsibilities will include:
WSP provides public/stakeholder and Indigenous engagement planning services, and conducts engagement activities for our clients in line with the principles of the International Association of Public Participation. Based on the experience and interest of the successful candidate, there will be opportunities to plan and participate in engagement activities, and to support other aspects of our human environment work, including for example, data collection for socio-economic assessments and studies. What you can expect to do here:

- Managing and reviewing records of engagement or other communications entered into SIIMS or third-party stakeholder tracking systems by another WSP staff member, sometimes also entering the records into the database
- Analyzing records of engagement to identify issues and concerns within written records and thematically coding each record
- Identifying and tracking action items and commitments made to Indigenous groups, stakeholders and the public through engagement activities
- Identifying data gaps in the engagement records to improve regulatory reporting
- Writing summaries of individual engagement activities and project engagement programs
- Producing standard and ad hoc reports about engagement activities, concerns, commitments and outstanding actions for clients, regulators and other project team members
- Writing proposals for potential clients regarding engagement tracking and engagement services
WSP provides public/stakeholder and Indigenous engagement planning services, and conducts engagement activities for our clients in line with the principles of the International Association of Public Participation. - Planning and organizing engagement materials, activities and events
- Notetaking at engagement events or during interviews
- Preparing engagement plans for clients and for submission to regulators
- Facilitating engagement events such as presentations or open houses, virtually or in-person
- Travel to project areas and work outside office hours for engagement events
What you'll bring to WSP:
The position requires that the successful candidate has a solid technical and/or academic background. Key requirements include:
- Education: Undergraduate degree or diploma, and strong relevant experience in public engagement and/or communications and report writing
- Dedication to accuracy, quality and attention to detail
- Ability to synthesize and summarize technical data in plain language
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to efficiently manage and prioritize several assignments at one time, and deliver results on time and within budget
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Strong technical writing and editing skills
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic, collaborative environment
- Strong skills in standard office software; experience with databases is an advantage
- Experience in planning, providing and documenting engagement services is an advantage
- Experience in contributing to environmental impact assessments is an advantage
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Experience in public/stakeholder and Indigenous engagement tracking and regulatory reporting
- Experience in public/stakeholder and/or Indigenous engagement (i.e., involvement in meetings, open houses, planning sessions)
- Experience with project engagement to meet regulatory requirements or for municipal planning
- Located in Calgary
