Job Description

Overview
At KPMG, you'll join a team of diverse and dedicated problem solvers, connected by a common cause: turning insight into opportunity for clients and communities around the world.

KPMG's Deal Advisory Valuation group is searching for two Senior Consultants to join our growing Edmonton practice. With one of the largest teams of accredited business valuators in Canada, KPMG is a respected leader in providing valuations and fairness opinions. KPMG clients receive the attention of dedicated senior valuation professionals who remain actively involved in all aspects of the engagement.

Valuations are often subject to third-party scrutiny. KPMG professionals monitor the changing laws and sensitivities of regulators, standard-setting bodies, taxing authorities, and the courts. We adopt an anticipatory mindset to help ensure that contentious issues and potential objections are recognized and addressed prior to issuing our report.

Our valuation approach is rigorous. We invest the time required to understand the subject business, consulting with professionals from KPMG International's global network as necessary. We combine our theoretical knowledge of sophisticated financial techniques with our practical understanding of capital markets. We excel when faced with complex and unusual issues. Our conclusions are well-supported, and our reports are clear and concise.

What you will do
This position involves advising public and private businesses operating in a variety of industries on valuation issues. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Participating in the writing of detailed reports
  • Assisting with the preparation of business valuations in support of transactions, tax planning, litigation, and other services across a diverse range of industries, using various valuation methodologies
  • Assisting with the preparation of impairment tests and purchase price allocations as they relate to financial reporting requirements under IFRS
  • Conducting research and benchmarking analysis, as well as compiling data on similar companies
  • Working in teams to conduct market and industry research, as well as detailed financial analysis on historical results
  • Preparing and presenting high-quality client deliverables
  • Participating in discussions and team meetings
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective clients
At times, business needs arise, and employees are required to work beyond their normal workday or workweek to fulfill the accountabilities required for their job. Likewise, people need extra time to devote to personal matters, and our approach to flexibility provides for this.

What you bring to the role
  • CPA designation
  • Commitment to achieving your CBV designation, including enrollment in the CBV program of studies immediately upon hire
  • Big 4 experience in an audit role
  • Bachelor's degree in commerce with a major in finance or accounting
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to prepare well-written reports
  • Strong work ethic and dedication to meeting deliverable timelines
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective and professional communication skills
  • Proficiency in CapIQ and other financial and industry research tools (considered an asset)
  • Strong interest in continuous learning and a self-starter attitude
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and establish strong networks
  • Capability to develop and motivate others, instilling confidence and coaching for exceptional results
  • Openness to learning and adapting, using insights and self-reflection to embrace new challenges
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality results and exceptional service
