Systems Analyst Consultant - Calgary - Oil & Gas (full on site)

On behalf of our Oil & Gas client located in Calgary AB., Brainhunter Systems Ltd. is seeking an experienced Systems Analyst to join their team on a one year contract opportunity.

Please note: This is a fully on site position at the downtown Calgary office.

Responsibilities include:
    • Responsible for the application lifecycle - commissioning, managing, maintaining, and retiring software applications.
    • Design application components to automate and streamline business processes and functions.
    • Design data conversion scripts to load data from external sources, and correct data quality or integrity problems.
    • Develop estimates of effort for design of new and/or modification to existing application components.
    • Develop and maintain technical specifications and documentation (e.g. solution design documents, handover-to-sustainment documents, etc.)
    • Troubleshoot and repair problems that occur in the everyday use of an application.
    • Understand the architecture of the applications within the assigned portfolio.
    • Provide guidance to Developers and Developer Analysts.
    • Analyze business requirements and translate them into system specifications, workflows, and technical documentation.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify process improvements and system enhancements.
    • Conduct feasibility studies to assess the impact of new technologies on business operations.
    • Work with development teams to ensure application design aligns with business needs, security, and industry best practices.
    • Support the design and review of system architecture, integrations, and infrastructure requirements (middleware, data flows, job scheduling, etc.).
    • Assist in testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing enterprise applications, including vendor-based and SaaS solutions.
    • Coordinate integration of vendor-based software and SaaS solutions with on-premise environments and enterprise systems.
    • Define and oversee data exchange, transformation, and integration workflows between systems.
    • Define and support integration workflows between enterprise applications, databases, and third-party solutions.
    • Develop and maintain technical specifications and documentation - solution design documents (architecture, workflows, dependencies) and handover-to-sustainment documents for support teams.
    • Perform research into and presentation of hardware and/or software options that enable specific business use cases. This involves working with other IS groups and/or external vendors to evaluate relevant solutions that meet specific business and technical requirements and possibly running pilot/POC initiatives to test these solutions against real-world scenarios.
    • Plan and coordinate application and infrastructure-related upgrade activities for vendor-provided business applications supported by the team.
    • Resolve identified application and system-wide cybersecurity vulnerabilities to mitigate risk and potential impact on the business.
    • Investigate and resolve third-level support tickets related to incidents and work orders that impact the business applications supported by the team.
The preferred candidate needs to have relevant experience in the following areas:
    • Knowledge and experience with application topology, including how applications connect to databases, servers, and integrates with other systems. This includes understanding data flow and system dependencies.
    • Have a basic understanding of networking principles (topologies, authentication, security protocols) to work effectively with IT teams.
    • Assist in the evaluation and deployment of cloud-based solutions to enhance business operations.
    • Act as a bridge between business users, IT teams, and vendors to ensure system requirements are met.
    • Understanding of Agile & ITIL frameworks for software development and IT service management.
    • Relational database design (specific to Oracle and/or SQL Server database environments).
    • Developing SQL scripts using PL/SQL.
    • Experiencing in designing, implementing, and supporting applications using application architecture principles, technologies, and best practices (e.g. considering middleware, data integrations, job scheduling, required infrastructure, etc.)
    • Integration of vendor-based software and/or SaaS solutions into an existing on premise environment.
    • Solid understanding of Windows Server technologies and how they support specific vendor applications running in on premise environments.
    • Knowledge of automation technologies (e.g. Orchestrator, RPA, etc.)
    • Familiarity with cloud-based solutions (e.g., Azure, AWS, SaaS platforms) and their integration with on-premise systems.
    • (Nice to have) Developing applications and software components in VB.NET and/or C# using Microsoft Visual Studio
    • (Nice to have) Developing single-page progressive web applications (PWAs) using Blazor (or similar technologies)
    • (Nice to have) Knowledge of reporting tools Power BI, Tableau, SSRS.
