The Opportunity:
WSP has a new opportunity for an Intermediate Water Resources Engineer, Intermediate Hydrotechnical Engineer, Intermediate River Engineer or Civil Engineer (with a background in Water Resources) to join the Prairies and North Region's Water Resources Engineering Group on a full-time basis in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon or Yellowknife.
The water group provides a variety of hydrology, hydrotechnical civil engineering services to many high-profile projects in the Prairie Provinces, Territories, throughout Canada and worldwide. As a part of this multi-disciplinary team, your role will involve applying engineering principles to support various water resources studies and/or civil & construction projects. Likewise, your contributions will include providing team leadership, mentoring, and technical proficiency for water resources, civil engineering and environmental projects.

What you can expect to do here:
- Lead or support water resources projects, including flood assessments, flood mapping, flood mitigation designs, hydrotechnical assessments/designs, watershed management, impact assessments, natural channel design, environmental compliance and regulatory permitting.
- Lead or support various projects involving hydraulic/hydrologic analyses, including design of hydraulic structures, surface water diversions, water control structures, water intakes, surface water outlets to rivers, pipelines and mining infrastructure.
- Undertake open-channel hydraulics and hydrologic modelling.
- Participate in a variety of water resources engineering projects at the proposal, planning and execution stages for engineering studies or construction projects.
- Provide engineering support on cost estimates, specifications, and input to contract documents prior to and during construction.
- Manage multiple project deadlines, budgets, and scope changes.
- Write proposals and technical reports.
- Lead or support multi-disciplinary project teams, collaborating and working efficiently with engineers, scientists, and managers at all levels, and communicating effectively with clients.
- Provide technical direction and career development/mentoring to more junior staff.
- Be a health and safety leader when conducting business on behalf of WSP.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- Bachelor or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering;
- Eligibility for immediate registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer;
- 5 years minimum experience in surface water resources engineering projects;
- Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic analyses;
- Experience working with dams, hydraulic structures (and mine water management is considered an asset);
- Experience in open-channel hydraulics, river engineering, erosion protection and scour analysis;
- Experience with technical specifications, design drawings, tender preparation, and construction administration or inspections;
- Excellent communication, leadership, analytical, and people skills.
- Valid driver's license;
- An ability to manage time and resources effectively; and
- Excellent technical writing skills.
