The Ulkatcho First Nation is one of four communities making up the Dakelh or Southern Carrier tribal nation in central British Columbia. The Ulkatcho community and offices are located in scenic Anahim Lake, with access to an unparalleled natural beauty.
The Ulkatcho government is responsible for 22 reserves with a population of 729 members living on-reserve, and another 200 living off reserve.

About the OpportunityUlkatcho First Nation has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Anahim Lake, with the option for a hybrid work arrangement requiring at least two weeks per month on-site.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the organization's human resources functions, ensuring compliance with employment standards, and fostering a positive workplace culture.
In this position, you will be primarily responsible for managing HR operations, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance, while contributing to policy development and organizational improvement initiatives.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supporting recruitment efforts, including job postings, screening, interviewing, and onboarding
- Managing employee relations by assisting with performance management, grievances, and workplace concerns
- Administering benefits programs, including enrollments, claims, and leave management
- Ensuring compliance with federal and provincial employment laws, including the Canada Labour Code
- Coordinating HR training sessions and providing guidance to management on HR policies
- Maintaining accurate HR records and preparing reports on key HR metrics
- Collaborating with leadership on workplace culture, engagement initiatives, and HR improvements
- Leading and participating in the Joint Health and Safety Committee

About YouTo qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, with ideally 2+ years of experience in human resources, including recruitment, employee support, and HR administration. However, we also welcome recent graduates who demonstrate a strong understanding of HR processes, employment standards, and human rights legislation, along with the drive and enthusiasm to uphold and strengthen HR frameworks and workplace relationships.
The following are also required:
- Ability to undergo a criminal record & vulnerable sector checks
- Possess a valid Driver’s License & access to a reliable vehicle
- Willingness and ability to travel per organization needs
The following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Knowledge of HR policies, employment standards, and best practices
- Familiarity with HR software and proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
- Experience in benefits administration and workplace health and safety initiatives
- CPHR designation (or working towards it) is an asset
- Understanding of Dakelh culture, traditions, and First Nations customs
- Ability to work independently and effectively with diverse teams using integrated case management techniques
- Ability to speak the Dakelh language (asset)
