The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a Transportation Manager for our Urban Highways and Roads team located in Calgary, Alberta. Reporting to the Regional Manager, this role is an opportunity to provide project, technical, financial and people leadership to a growing team of professionals and technicians. You will be an integral part of developing and delivering our services for the City of Calgary.

About you:
  • You are a Transportation Engineering leader with a keen interest in developing a growth strategy in an urban setting,
  • You have demonstrable expertise in optimizing the financial, quality, and project delivery performance of an existing urban transportation business.
  • You have proven success in client relationship management and have strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • You have a genuine commitment to the firm's values and our team's success.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to lead a team of professionals with excellent communication skills both internally with staff and externally with clients.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Develop and implement business development strategies, including coordination with local Major Projects i.e., DB's, P3's,
  • Lead and participate in the preparation of proposals and cost estimates,
  • Provide project management, engineering and technical expertise,
  • Recruit new team members as needed,
  • Accountability for the overall financial and operational performance of the department under your direction, including the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPI's),
  • Provide effective leadership and collaboration with other disciplines.
  • Develop and support technical expertise for the execution of projects, by providing leadership and mentoring opportunities.
  • Monitor and maintain overall resource management, including staffing, to meet project and budget targets/demands.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and guidance to staff,
  • Manage operational responsibilities of the team's Project Managers / Team Leads,
  • Uphold the company's core values and maintain Health and Safety at the highest level.

What you'll bring to WSP ...
  • Graduate from a University or Technical school in the field of Engineering or a related discipline, or a combination of related experience and education,
  • Minimum of 7 - 10 years of related Canadian experience with a minimum 5 years of experience in an urban transportation setting,
  • Experience with business development, proposal writing, and client management,
  • Demonstrable supervisory experience leading multi-disciplinary teams of professionals and technical staff,
  • Experience with various urban roadway infrastructure including arterial roadways, highways, transit (LRT and subway) and airports as they relate to roadway improvements.
  • Be flexible and agile and have the ability to work on multiple projects of varied complexity and variable deadlines,
  • Strategic, conceptual analytical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiastic team player.
  • Excellent oral and written and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to other urban centers with the province.
  • Class 5 Operators licence.
