WSP is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team, located at our Calgary office. WSP's Electrical Engineering team in Calgary engages in many projects in the public, commercial, light industrial, industrial and transportation sectors.

A day in the life:
  • You'll be using your expertise to design electrical systems for a wide variety of building types and locations throughout southern Alberta and south-eastern British Columbia
  • You'll be managing project assignments within the electrical buildings field, including power distribution, lighting, emergency, life safety, communications, data and security systems.
  • You will be involved at all stages of projects, from the opportunity and proposal stages, through the designs, to construction and close-out.
  • The role requires participating with a design team of electrical engineers, electrical technologists and the other disciplines with a focus on technical solutions, developing electrical designs, taking responsibility for the preparation of project drawings and specifications, reviewing others' work, and completing fieldwork.
  • Daily communication with the clients, other design team partners, authorities and contractors is through a variety of channels; in-person, email, text, Teams meetings and phone calls.
  • You will be working on the design of power distribution (normal and emergency backup power), infrastructure, lighting, fire alarm, data and security systems for buildings in the health care, government, institutional and commercial sectors.
  • Electrical designs shall comply with the National Building Code - Alberta Edition, the Canadian Electrical Code, and other codes as required.
  • Understanding and practice safe work procedures is paramount.
  • Project budgets and timelines are maintained while engaging in accurate and prompt project tracking, management and billing.
  • You'll review and assess existing systems and prepare condition reports and feasibility studies.
  • You'll complete design calculations utilizing industry-standard load and lighting analysis software.
  • You'll select systems, complete equipment schedules and write specifications.
  • You'll coordinate the preparation of project drawings that utilize industry-standard CAD and BIM software.
  • You'll prepare fees, participate in proposals and attend business development events.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff members is encouraged and necessary.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • Professional Engineer registration with APEGA or eligibility to obtain upon employment
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering consulting for buildings and infrastructure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead a team to deliver design submissions, often with demanding timelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoDesk Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with AGi32 and ETAP is considered an asset.
  • Experience with delivering comprehensive design submissions, preferably with a demonstration of complex phasing requirements.
  • Experience in creating tender document packages with drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with site reviews of building electrical and IMIT systems.
  • An extensive understanding of building construction and building electrical systems and infrastructure.
  • A detailed working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and National Building Code - Alberta Edition.
  • Experience with commissioning systems is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience on multidiscipline teams for proposals and experience with preparing fee letters for electrical engineering services is an asset.
  • PSPC Reliability clearance is an asset
