About the Opportunity

 

Our Calgary office is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Consultant to join our team. This role offers a high degree of flexibility and involves minimal field work or travel. If you are passionate about integrating environmental components into diverse projects and finding balanced solutions to enhance sustainability, conservation, biodiversity, and natural processes, we would love to hear from you.

  • Overseeing Water Act regulatory processes, including wetland delineation, classification, impact assessment, mitigation planning, and permitting. 
  • Conducting senior reviews of ABWRET-A, WAIRs, WAIFs, BIAs, and COPs. 
  • Leading and supporting field programs primarily in the Calgary region. 
  • Preparing reports and environmental permitting applications. 
  • Providing senior reviews of reports and provide professional sign-off. 
  • Leading project scopes, preparing cost estimates, and managing projects. 
  • Fostering collaborative relationships with team members, regulators, and clients. 
  • Mentoring, training, and supervising members of Urban’s environmental practice.  
  • Coordinating regulatory approvals required by local, provincial, and federal agencies.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to learning through the ongoing achievement of personal and professional goals.
  • Being a champion for the environment and our team, within and outside of Urban Systems.

 

About You

 

Our preferred candidate will be a graduate of a Biology, Natural Resource Science, Environmental Science, or related discipline bachelor’s degree program with a minimum of 8 years of experience. The ideal candidate will be registered as an Agrologist or Biologist in Alberta. The core skills that will help you succeed here include:

  • You have In-depth knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements and approval process with a focus on the Alberta Wetland Policy.
  • You have proven expertise in wetland classification and delineation.  
  • You have strong technical writing and project management skills.
  • You are capable and enthusiastic about playing an integral role in regulatory advice and approvals, design input, and potential solutions as they relate to the environmental components of our projects.
  • You have the ability to develop and nurture positive interpersonal relationships with people from varying backgrounds, including team members, clients, and partners.
  • You have a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
