About the Opportunity

Neskonlith Indian Band is looking for a full-time Director of Education based in Chase, BC.

Reporting to the Band Administrator, you will play a pivotal role in leading the Neskonlith Education Centre (NEC), daycare, K-12 systems, and associated educational programs, overseeing strategic development and implementation of initiatives that align with community values, serve First Nations students, and meet provincial and federal standards. In this capacity, you will represent the Neskonlith Indian Band across schools in both School Districts 73 and 83, advocating impartially for the best interests of students in each district.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for managing educational programs and partnerships, ensuring funding compliance, and fostering a supportive learning environment.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and executing comprehensive educational strategies that reflect community aspirations
  • Overseeing educational programs to ensure they are culturally relevant and of the highest quality
  • Leading, supervising, and mentoring education department staff, providing guidance and support in accordance with HR policies to promote collaboration and professional growth
  • Preparing and managing budgets, securing ISC funding, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements
  • Engaging with community members, elders, and stakeholders to support inclusive, culturally aligned educational initiatives
  • Establishing policies and ensuring structured, organized daily routines across all programs
  • Utilizing data analysis to track student outcomes and refine instructional methods
  • Ensuring compliance with current provincial standards and integrating innovative teaching methods
  • Advocating for First Nations values in interactions with school boards and representing the community effectively
  • Navigating challenges related to funding, curriculum updates, and change management

About You

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Policy, or a related field, with 5+ years of teaching experience within Indigenous or culturally diverse settings, and 4+ years in educational management or supervision.

The following are also required:

  • Ability to undergo a criminal record & vulnerable sector checks
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License & access to a reliable vehicle
  • Willingness and ability to travel per organization needs

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Proven experience in curriculum development, instructional leadership, and adapting curriculum to meet provincial standards, especially within Indigenous education systems
  • Strong background in engaging families, community members, and elders to support culturally relevant education and Indigenous traditions
  • Hands-on expertise in training, mentoring, and conducting professional development for teachers, alongside managing part-time, student, and administrative staff
  • Proficiency in data analysis to assess student outcomes and program effectiveness, with experience in funding and reporting requirements from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC)
  • Skilled in budgeting, resource prioritization, and securing funds, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and ISC reporting standards
  • Demonstrated ability to establish organizational structure, manage daily routines, and ensure accountability across educational departments
  • Familiarity with working with school districts, with the ability to act as a representative for Indigenous educational interests as needed
  • Ability to implement change effectively and foster a positive culture around new educational strategies
